Raymond von Flue [EH]
From: James E. Diel <JEDIEL@up.com>
Sent: Monday,June 16, 2014 8:39 AM
To: Raymond von Flue [EH]
Subject: Stockton, CA- Diesel Pipeline from Port to Yard - Letter documenting closure of
pipeline
Attachments: Stockton, ca - Fuel Pipeline - UP Letter to Stockton Clerk 19951013.pdf
Ray: It was good to catch up with you this morning.
As I mentioned, we have been unable to locate a report detailing abandonment work related to this pipeline, but
did locate this letter from 1995 which describes the actions taken.
(See attached file: Stockton, ca -Fuel Pipeline - UP Letter to Stockton Clerk 19951013.pdf
A couple of years ago when you and I first discussed this issue, I tracked down six former UPRR employees
and consultants that were involved with the project.None of them were able to provide a copy of the report, but
all confirmed that the pipeline was evacuated of fuel, flushed with water, filled with inert gas then capped.
Several also told me that the pipeline was later slurry filled.
The list of individuals that I spoke with includes:
Jack Dishman- (former Maintenance Foreman stationed at Stockton)
Preston Sargent- (former Manager of Engineering)
Rick Ditmar(former consultant at USPCI)
Ken Rose (former consultant at USPCI)
Jim Gorley (former Environmental Manager stationed at Stockton)
Mark McCune - (former Manager of Engineering)
As I mentioned when we spoke, please let me know if this is sufficient documentation to close out this matter. If
something further is requested, please send me a letter at the address shown below that details exactly what you
are requesting.
Thanks much.
James E.
