Tracerr1 search Corporation
E
1.0 'UPRR 6TH STREET PIPELINE INVESTIGATION
' Tracer Research Corporation (Tracer.Research)performed a shallow soil gas .
investigation at the UPRR 6th Street Pipeline in Stockton California. The investigation was
g A g
conducted on April 30 and May 1, 1992;for USPCI.
l
1.1 Objective
The purpose of:the investigation was to assess the applicability of the soil gas
i -
technique to this particular project. If the survey was found to be successful, a larger ,
investigation will be undertaken. Soil gas samples were collected and screened for the
following hydrocarbons.
- Aromatics
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX)
Aromatics, Aliphatics, and Alicyclics
A` total volatile hydrocarbons C4-C9 (TVHC C4-C9)
t total volatile hydrocarbons CIO-CX (TVHC C10-CX)
1.2 Overview of Results
'For this investigation; 29 soil gas samples were collected from 29 locations. No
benzene or ethylbenzene were detected in any of the samples. Toluene, xylenes, and TVHC
C10-CX were detected in low concentrations (0.3 to 7 micrograms per liter--ug/1) in a few
:.
samples. TVHC C4=C9 were detected throughout the site in higher concentrations (0.4 to
7,400 ug/1'at sample location SG-G).
{ 1.3 Out-of-Control Events .
f
Samples SG-2-4', SG-C-4', SG-D-4', SG-1-5' encountered.interference for
benzene analysis. Benzene could.not be properly identified.
2.0 SITE DESCRIPTION
The UPRR 6th Street Pipeline trench is made up of sandy backfill.
