San Joaquin Street
Stockton, CA 95201
Re. Assessment of Union Pacific Railroads Diesel Pipeline, Stockton, CA.
Mr. Wilson,
Enclosed is a copy of the report documenting the assessment of the Union Pacific
Railroads Diesel Pipeline in Stockton. The work performed involved a test of the soil
gas sampling method in an area of a known release with confirmation soil sampling
and analysis. The test indicates that the soil gas technique was successful in locating
the extent of the soils impacted by the release.
The report recommends that the soil gas sampling and analysis method be used to
assess the remainder of the pipeline. It is also recommended that limited confirmatory
soil samples be obtained periodically along the length of the pipeline to confirm the
soil gas results. Additional soil investigations should be focused on areas which the
soil gas survey indicates that releases from the pipeline may have occurred. Upon
evaluation of the data, appropriate methods for closing the pipeline will be developed.
Sincerely,
C
Richard C.
