1%./ 11-
• For soil, samples WB-SBI-10 and WB-SB9-2.5 because of potential soil
contamination from the boat and motor freight terminal or the off-site former
gasoline service station and potential soil contamination beneath the former
wharf area.
• For sediment, sample WB-SD1. The sample is a random location so there is no
significance to where the QA/QC sample might be taken.
• For wood, sample WB-P2. The sample is a random location so there is no
significance to where the QA/QC sample might be taken.
• For groundwater, sample WB-GW2 because of possible contaminant migration
from the upgradient former gasoline service station.
9.3 Duplicate Samples
Duplicate samples will be collected simultaneously with a standard sample from the
same source under identical conditions into separate sample containers. A duplicate
sample is treated independently of its counterpart in order to assess laboratory
performance through comparison of the results. At least 10% of samples collected per
event will be duplicates. At least one duplicate will be collected for each sample
matrix. Every analytical group for which a standard sample is analyzed will also be
tested for in one or more duplicate samples. Duplicate samples should be collected
from areas of known or suspected contamination.
Duplicate soil samples will be collected (split) at sample locations WB-SB2 and WB-
SB5. Duplicate samples will be collected from these locations because are suspected
to exhibit the highest concentrations of contaminants or previous sampling events have
detected the highest levels of contamination at the site at these locations.
One duplicate sample for groundwater will be collected at WB-GW 1 because of the
potential of its location on the site and its proximity to the upgradient former service
station.
One duplicate sediment sample of WB-SD2 (designated as WB-SD5) and one
duplicate wood sample of WB-P3 (designated as WB-P5) will be collected. The
locations are random, so there is no significance to where the duplicate sample might
be taken.
9.4 Background (Reference) Samples
Background (reference) samples will not be collected during this investigation as
discussed with the EPA during a meeting on March 25, 1998. In general, regional
data for background concentrations for metals will be used for soil data comparison
purposes.
