PHS/EHD has the following comments for your consideration. -
PHS/EHD concurs with Fugro's recommendation to initiate air diffusion into RW1 and RW2. The
migration of dissolved oxygen appears to be contained on site as indicated by dissolved oxygen
monitoring. Furthermore, based on results of the recent groundwater sampling event, August 16, 1994,
the contamination does not appear to be migrating off site.
PHS/EHD does not concur with Fugro's recommendation to initiate air diffusion into MW4 at this time. In
order to monitor migrational patterns, a downgradient well :is required to confirm that contaminants are not
migrating offsite. Monitoring well, MW4, which is in the'aowngradient location, will provide background
information necessary to verify that the contamination is not migrating offsite.
Please be informed that dissolved oxygen levels in the wells should be measured weekly for at least one ll
month after initiating air diffusion into RW1 and RW2 and the information provided to PHS/EHD.
If you have any questions, comments or wish to schedule a site inspection, please contact Mary Meays at
(209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Diane .: Hinson, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
}
MM/141 ELDO
c: Elizabeth Thayer, CVRWQCB
c: Dan Kirk, Shell Oil
c: Jeanne Zolezzi, Neumiiler and Beardslee
c: Paul Graff, Aegis Environmental
g 4.
- L
A Di%ision or San Joatiuin CrnHnhHealth Care Service. f
