C A M B R 1 A
Well Destruction
Well destruction will be done either by pressure grouting or overdrilling each well, depending
on which method will be allowed at this site by SJCPHS.
Pressure Grouting: Pressure grouting is the method we would prefer to use for destruction of
the wells at this site. This method involves filling the well casing with cement grout from the
h
bottom up. Once the casing is filled with cement grout a pressure seal is placed on top of the
well casing and additional cement grout is pumped under pressure into the well casing. This
forces the cement grout through the well screens, out into the filter pack material.
Overdrilling: If pressure grouting is not an acceptable method for well destruction at this site
then we will overdrill each well with hollow stem augers. The wells will be drilled out to their
original diameter and depth and then the boring will be backfilled with cement grout to grade.
A Cambria geologist will supervise well destruction activities. SJCPHS will be notified prior to
the start of field work (48 hours notice).
Any soil generated during well destruction activities will be temporarily stored on and covered
with plastic sheeting while it is profiled for disposal. The soil will be transported to an
appropriate landfill facility once it has been accepted for disposal.
Report Preparation
Following completion of well destruction activities, Cambria will prepare a written report
documenting the destruction of the wells.
The scope of work described in this work plan will be performed under the supervision of a
registered geologist or engineer.
SCHEDULE
Cambria is prepared to begin work upon written approval of this work plan by SJCPHS and
receipt of an appropriate drilling permit. We have scheduled a drilling rig for this work for
September 18, 2000, which is the earliest a drilling rig was available.
0821 3
