(Fugro) is providing <br /> this letter to summarize soil and ground water remediation conducted at the subject site (Figures <br /> 1 and 2) and to propose a final phase of corrective action. It is the professional opinion of Fugro <br /> and Shell that ground water recovery and vapor�'extraction have reached both the technical and <br /> resource limits of feasibility, and that the remedial systems could be more effectively utilized at <br /> another site. Based on this information, Fugro requests the concurrence of the San Joaquin <br /> County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (SJCPHS/EHD) to discontinue <br /> operation of the remediation system at the site. <br /> Shell has been operating the various vapor extraction systems (VESs) to extract petroleum <br /> hydrocarbon vapors from soil and ground water at the site since January 1992. The VESs have <br /> been augmented by a ground water oxygenation E(GWO) system since July 1994. In addition, a <br /> ground water recovery system has been in operation at the site since March 1993. The following <br /> is a summary of remedial activities conducted at the site to date: <br /> • Sources of petroleum hydrocarbons toground water have been removed by vapor <br /> extraction, GWO, and ground water recovery. As of the date of this correspondence, the <br /> soil vapor extraction and ground water recovery systems have recovered an estimated total <br /> of 3,300 pounds (or 528 gallons) of petroleum hydrocarbons. <br /> i <br /> E <br /> { <br /> �f <br /> 93473011.ARP l <br />
