Weber Enterprises, Inc., Property
141 North EI Dorado St., Stockton
APCD Permit No. AP 91-467
Dear Mr. Schonhoff:
This report summarizes the performance of the Vapor Extraction System located at the above
referenced site (Figure 1).
The system became operational on January 24, 1992 and was shut down on March 13, 1992.
The system consisted of an internal combustion engine coupled to four vapor extraction wells
and operated for a total of 519.1 hours. A copy of the operational log is provided in Attachment
1. The average flow rate of extraction vapors was 5 SUM and never exceeded 10 SCFM.
The average influent concentration of the extracted vapors was 7100 pg1t or 2671 ppm(v)Total.
Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (T?Hg) (Attachment 2).
During the operational period of this system an estimated 70 pounds of hydrocarbon
contaminants were removed from the soil. The average effluent hydrocarbon concentration was
400 I-g/1 or 150 ppm(v) TPHg (Attachment 3).
Influent and effluent samples were collected from the system on February 10, 1992. Laboratory
results from a Calderon inert gas analysis (Attachment 4) show that the influent vapor stream
contained very Iow oxygen levels(7.1%)and reh;tively high carbon dioxide levels(5.1%). The
low oxygen and high carbon dioxide levels in the influent vapor stream affected the engine's
ability to efficiently extract and destroy the contaminated vapors entering it. It was therefore
necessary to shut down the internal combustion engine and implement a more effective
remediation technology.
An Authority of Construct permit was granted on March 25, 1992, for a 250 SCFM Thermal
Oxidizer which will significantly improve the contaminant removal rate from the soil.
wrLn4M.tisnn
