a J
enviros®
3.2 Soil Chemical Analytical Data
Soil chemical analytical data are presented in Table 2 The distribution of petroleum
hydrocarbons in soil is presented on Plate 2 Certified analytical reports are contained in
Appendix B
TPPH was detected in only four soil samples The soil sample from Boring B-5 collected
from a depth of 20 fbg contained 970 parts per million (ppm) TPPH The soil samples
from Boring B-7 collected from the depths of 15, 20, and 25 fbg contained TPPH
concentrations of 34, 6 9, and 1 4 ppm, respectively
BTEX was not detected (ND) in all soil samples collected from the soil borings with the
exception of one soil sample collected at 26 5 fbg from Boring B-3 Benzene, toluene, and
xylenes were detected in this soil sample at concentrations of 0 010, 0 010, and 0 010
ppm, respectively
MTBE was detected in only one soil sample during this investigation The soil sample
from 26 5 fbg in Boring B-3 contained MTBE at a concentration of 0 090 ppm
Analysis of TPPH and BTEX with the TCLP extraction method was performed on soil
samples from Borings B-4, B-5, and B-7 The soil sample from 25 5 fbg from Boring
B-4 did not contain detectable levels of TPPH or BTEX using the TCLP extraction The
soil sample from 20 fbg from Boring B-5 contained 6 2 ppm TPPH and was ND for
BTEX using the TCLP extraction The soil sample from 20 fbg from Boring B-7
contained 1 9 ppm TPPH and was ND for BTEX using the TCLP extraction
Total lead was identified in the soil stockpile sample at a concentration of 10 ppm These
detected lead concentrations appear to represent background values in native soils
3.3 Soil Physical Parameters Analysis
One soil sample was submitted to Core Laboratories, Inc located in Bakersfield,
California, for porosity and permeability to air (permeability) analysis The soil sample
from Boring B-4 collected from 25 5 fbg was found to have a total porosity of 39 5% and
a permeability of 2 7 meters per day (8 9 feet per day) The laboratory report for the
physical parameter analysis is contained in Appendix B
Analysis for FOC was performed on the soil sample from Boring B-4 from 25 5 fbg and
from Boring B-5 from 20 fbg FOC was found to be 0 083% in the sample from B-4 and
0 057% in the sample from B-5
I
4.0 CONCLUSIONS
Soil types encountered during drilling of eight exploratory soil borings consist of clay
(CL), silt (ML), clayey sand (SC), silty sand (SM), and sand (SP) to the maximum depth
explored of 415 fbg Depth to first encountered ground water ranged from 24 5 to 29 5
fbg
369 3
