r-
iClayton
4.0 T .N: .
Soil and groundwater samples were analyzed for suspected chemical constituents by
En,ironmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 5030;8015-8020 (soil and water), for
feral petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and
xylenes (BTEX).
4.1 SOIL SAIMPLE ANALYSES
The soil sample; taken at 1:.6.5ftcontained 0.16 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg}
toluene and 0.3 mg/kg gasoline, oth of these concentrations are below state action
levels. The mg/kg unit of measurement is approximately equal to parts per million
(ppnn). None of the other compounds for which the laboratory conducted analyses
were detected in the 16.5 ft sample. rhes cum ounds were detected in thv
sample taken at 40 ft bas. The !aboratory report is included as Appendix G.
4.2 GROUNDWATER SAMPLE ANALYSES
The groundwater sample contained 1.9 micrograms per liter (49/L) toluene, 2.1 4g/L
ethylbenzene, 3.7 µa_f, xylenes, a nasoline. Micrograms per liter are
approximately equa. to parts per billion (ppb). oluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes
concentrations are all below the state action levels. No action level has been set for
,gasoline. However, the presence of these compounds indicates that groundwater
beneath the: site has been impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons. The laboratory
rept ort is included as Appendix H.
5-0 CONCLUSIMNS \T NT
Petroleum hydrocarbons are present in soil and groundwater beneath the subject site,
although the concentrations are below state action levels. A fuel leak was
documented at a car repair shop at 141 :North El Dorado Street. The site of the leak
is crossgradient to upgradient of the; subject site. There was no known onsite source
of the contamination. Contamination at the subject site may have migrated from the;
car repairs op. Clayton recommends notifying the owner of the car repair shop of
the results of this investigation. The owner should be asked to define the horizontal
extent (non-detect line) of the known petro!eum contaminated soil and groundwater
resulting from the leak. This is typically required by the Regional Water Quality
Control Board (RWQCB) and County Health Agencies.
A copy of this report must be submitted to San Toaquin Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division to comply with their requirements.
Mations
The information and opinions rendered in this report are exclusively for use by
American Savings Bank.
