These two soil samples were combined into one"composite" sample in the
laboratory for testing. After the soil samples were collected, the ends of the sleeves were
covered with Teflon® tape and secured with plastic end caps. The sleeves were labeled and
placed in a cooled ice chest for shipment to Twining's state-certified analytical laboratory.
Chain-of-custody documentation and a site plan showing the soil sample locations are attached.
ANALYTICAL PROCEDURES
The soil samples collected beneath the USTs were analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethyl-benzene,
I xylenes (BTEX), and methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE) using the United States Environmental
` Protection Agency's (U: S. EPA's)Method 8021, and total petroleum hydrocarbons-gasoline
range (TPH-G) and total petroleum hydrocarbons -diesel range constituents using the gas
chromatography/flame ionization detection (GC/FID) method, for poly-chlorinated biphenyl
(PCB) g
usin the U. S. EPA's Method 8082, for fuel oxygenates using the U.S. EPA method
chromium Cr lead Pb , nickel
Cd tri-valent chr ( tr), ( )
 $260,
and for the selected metals cadmium { ), _
(Ni), and zinc (Zn) using the U.S. EPA's Method 5010, hexa-valent Chromium'(Crvj) usingthe
U. S. EPA's Method 7196A, and volatile halogenated organic compounds using the U. S. EPA
Method 8021. Sample analyses were specified by the SJCPHS on-site representative.
SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS AND ANALYTICAL RESULTS
The former contents of the tanks were unknown. Approximate tank capacity, and observations
made by Twining at the time of the tank removal are summarized in Table 1.
r TABLE 1
Underground Storage Tank Contents, Capacity, and Observed Condition
Southwest Corner Lafayette:& E1 Dorado, Stockton CA
UST Removal Action;September 20 and October 8, 1999..
UST UST Diameter Length Rated' Depth Observed Condition of Tank and
Number' Contents feet feet Capacity, feet' Excavation
5125442 Unknown 4 10 950 5 Tank was rusty,4-foot diameter hole
in west end.No odor or stains detected
+ in excavation.
27402 Unknown 5 12 1,800 6 Rusty with some pitting,no obvious
holes.
