The report contains soil and groundwater results from the most recent
assessment performed in the area of three underground storage tanks (USTs) closed in place in 1967.
The addendum contains other identified leaky UST sites and their locations in relationship to the above
referenced site.
On December 21, 1998, two soil borings (BFS-1 and BSF-2) were drilled to a depth of 20 and 28 feet
below ground surface (bgs), respectively, and soil and groundwater samples were collected for analyses.
A silty sand was encountered from 25-30 feet bgs in BFS-1 and from 20-22 feet bgs in BFS-2. Soil
samples were collected at 14 and 20 feet bgs in BFS-1 and 16 and 19 feet bgs in BFS-2. Groundwater
was encountered and samples were collected during drilling at 25 feet bgs in BFS-1 and 20 feet bgs in
BFS-2.
Analytical results of the soil samples from the borings were below detection limits for Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-gasoline), Benzene, Toluene, Ethlybenzene, Xylene, and oxygenates.
Groundwater results from BFS-1 were positive for: TPH-gasoline 4200 parts per billion (ppb), Benzene
220 ppb, Toluene 400 ppb, Ethylbenzene 340 ppb, Xylene 1500 ppb, MTBE 0.78 ppb, DIPE 6.1 ppb, and
Ethanol 6.4 ppb.
A"Property Transfer Site Assessment" was conducted on April 18, 1997 and soil samples were collected
in the area of the three USTs closed in place. Soil sample analytical results at 20 feet bgs were positive
for gasoline. TPH-gasoline was as high as 16,200 part per million (ppm) in sample P131.
Due to the high concentrations of gasoline contamination in soil and groundwater evidenced in the area of
the 3 USTs closed in place, you are directed to perform a groundwater investigation to determine the
nature and extent of contamination from the documented unauthorized release.
Please submit a work plan to define the vertical and lateral extent of contamination by October 29, 1999.
If you have any further questions regarding this matter contact, Harlin Knoll at (209)468-3442.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Harlin Knoll, Senior REHS Margaret' gorio, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
cc: RWQCB, Central Valley Region
Mark List
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
