Box 2009 (445 N. San Joaquin Street)
Stockton, CA 95201
Site: Firestone Store, 400 North EI Dorado Street, Stockton, California
Subject: Quarterly Report on Vapor Extraction System Operation
(November 4, 1994 - February 4, 1995)
Dear Mr. Knoll:
As you requested, this letter report contains a brief narrative on the startup and
subsequent operation of the vapor extraction system (VES) at this site. All vapor off-
gas analytical data from samples collected through February 4, 1995, are attached.
On November 1 through November 3, 1994, VES installation was completed at the
subject site. Site activity included construction of a (second) vapor extraction well,
construction of four vacuum monitoring points, and installation of the piping and
vacuum system itself. Details of system design and construction can be reviewed in
the Soil Remediation Plan forwarded to San Joaquin County on February 2, 1994.
VES operation was initiated on Friday, November 4, 1994. System operation and
maintenance (O&M) activities were performed by On-Site Technologies, a local
subcontractor out of Campbell, California. As of this time, vacuum has only been
applied to the vapor extraction well screened from 18- to 28-feet below grade in
native soil (VE-1). The system has been operating at an air flow rate of 40-cubic feet
per minute (CFM) since startup. This flow rate has produced a vacuum level at the
extraction point of approximately 16-inches of water column.
The five vacuum monitoring points surrounding the former UST area have been
monitored periodically during system operation. All five monitoring points have
displayed a response to the vacuum level being applied at the extraction well. Vacuum
levels between 0.5- and 2.5-inches of water have been measured in the monitoring
,%Ne, points, and have remained relatively consistent over time.
