1
Rrestone Service Center 400 North El Dorado, Stockton, California
4 February 2, 1994 Soil Remediation Plan— 2072.01 Page 3 of 6
• Due to the difference in soil media between the wells, only one well will operate
at a time Based on the limited extent of hydrocarbon impacts, the single well
extraction system (per identified soil layer) is projected to have a sufficient radius
of influence to reach the impacted areas.
Since the maximum vertical extent of observed contamination is within 30-feet of
the surface and groundwater has not been encountered at this site to a depth of
41 .5-feet, groundwater is presumed to be unimpacted by the release and should
not be affected by proposed VES system operation
3.2 Vapor Extraction Equipment/System Connections
The equipment for the vapor extraction process will include a skid-mounted unit
consisting of an explosion-proof regenerative blower designed to operate at 60-
standard cubic feet per minute (scfm) and 46-inches of water, a vapor entrapment
canister which protects the blower from moisture, a flow meter and vacuum
gauge, and a carbon canister for treatment of extracted vapor prior to discharge.
It is projected that one carbon canister will be sufficient, however, system
monitoring will verify the treatment requirements The carbon canister can be
readily replaced as necessary
. The vapor extraction wells will be connected to the system by PVC or HDPE pipe
Pipe will be placed in a trench from the well head to the corner of the building
within the city right-of-way. The trench will be backfilled with soil or gravel and
resurfaced with concrete to meet the existing sidewalk grade Steel pipe may be
utilized for the exposed section of pipe Isolation valves will be installed on the
connection pipe for each well to facilitate well selection A single header pipe will
be connected to the blower, housed outside of the building. The VES unit will be
secured behind a locked fence and protected from weather. A plan view of the
system is shown in Figure 3
During the site monitoring visits, necessary operation and maintenance tasks will
be performed The equipment will be lubricated and filters will be checked The
blower oil level and the liquid level in the moisture separator will be inspected
System adjustments or repairs will be made accordingly
3.3 Monitoring
Monitoring points will be utilized to evaluate the effectiveness of each extraction
well and verify the radius of influence A combination of five monitoring points
screened at a range of depths and distances from the extraction wells are proposed
for data collection and system evaluation.
