BndgeStone/F-westone, Inc. 400 N. EI Dorado, Stockton, CaUorma
February 2, 1994 Site Assessment Report—RMI 207201 Page 6 of 12
3.6 Soil Sample Collection
All soil samples were collected using a California-modified, brass-lined, split-spoon
' drive tube sampling device Samples were collected from each 5-foot soil interval
Samples were selected for laboratory analysis based on the areas of the highest
PID readings to quantify the degree of hydrocarbon impact Samples were also
' collected from the borehole termination depths in an attempt to define the vertical
limits of contamination
' Upon split-spoon retrieval and disassembly, the center brass sleeve was recovered
from within the split-spoon device Both ends of the brass sleeve were immediately
covered with sheets of aluminum foil, secured with plastic caps, and labeled The
' samples were then stored in a cooler on ice until sample selection for laboratory
analysis was made
Each sample selected for laboratory analysis was placed to a Ziploc bag Ice was
' distributed within the cooler to maintain EPA-designated sample preservation
temperatures during shipping Chain-of-custody documentation was completed and
transported within the cooler The cooler was secured with packing tape and chain-
of-custody seals and shipped overnight to the contracted laboratory, Analytical
Technologies, Inc , in Fort Collins, Colorado The Analytical Technologies California
Department of Health Services certification number is 1402
37 Vapor Extraction Well Installation
' Based on observed soil conditionsm -
edium dense to dense, medium-grain sand at
20-feet), contaminant volatility, depth of contamination (25-feet), and the
structural constraints at the site, a vapor extraction system continues to be an
applicable remediation technology for this site
' As a result, one 4-inch soil vapor extraction well and one 2-inch observation well
were installed Due to the limited extent of soil contamination beyond the UST
removal excavation, the 4-inch vapor extraction well was installed in SB-3 through
' the center of the pit based largely on field screening and physical observations The
2-inch observation well was installed in SB-5, inside of the building, as a potential
monitoring point. Installation of these two wells was made in consultation with the
' Ryan-Murphy Director of Technical Services.
Soil boring annular space was filled with #2112 silica sand along the screened
interval, a hydrated bentonite pellet plug above the sand, and portland
cement/bentonite grout slurry to the surface The extraction well was completed
' RYAN-MURPHY, INCORPORA IFA Denver
FATk'onmened CoEStsuctim Mamagemew I.as Ang
