' FIRESTONE Service Center 400 North El Dorado Street, Stockton, Cahforma
October 5, 1993 Site Assessment Work Plan-2072.01 Page 5 of 7
Samples selected for OVA/PID screening will be based on stratigraphic information and
general soil observations Soil from every 5-foot sampling interval will be screened for
volatile organics Field instruments will be calibrated according to procedures, calibration
gases, and frequencies designated by the manufacturer
4.5 Sampling Strategy — Boring Termination Depths
Pursuant to the completion of each test boring, at least two samples from each boring
will be selected for laboratory analysis The selection process will be based on pre-
existing site information, recorded OVA/PID readings, stratigraphic information,
termination depths, and general information obtained during drilling The Ryan-Murphy
field geologist will select the samples necessary to adequately characterize the extent of
subsurface contamination
In the event that no organic vapors are detected and no evidence of contamination is
observed, any mid-boring soil samples selected for laboratory analysis will be from soil
zones displaying the greatest potential for contaminant migration (e g. coarse, clean sand)
and/or depths representative of known zones of contamination
All borings will be advanced to depths necessary to evaluate gravity-based contaminant
migration away from the source area Should observable contamination persist to the
proposed boring depth (30-feet), auger drilling will continue until soil samples do not
exhibit petroleum contamination Soil samples will be collected at all boring termination
depths. In addition, at least one sample will be collected (for analysis) within each 20-
vertical feet of contaminated soil profile These additional data points will be used to
develop contamination contours over significant vertical distances should that be
necessary
The soil samples to be submitted for laboratory analysis will be recovered from the
center brass tube of each drive sample and will be covered at each end with one Teflon
sheet, aluminum foil, and then sealed with a plastic cap These soil sample tubes will be
labeled, placed (immediately after collection) in a chest with ice, and shipped to a
certified laboratory (generally via Federal Express) on the day of collection. The shipping
container (usually an ice chest) will contain a completed chain-of-custody form indicating
sample identification numbers, site or source description, and desired analytical
procedures This form will also be included in the Site Assessment Report
RYAN-bRJRPHY, INCORPORATED Denver
' Enviuroamealal Construction Management Us Angeks
