Mr H Knoll
June 23, 1999
Page 5
on QST's investigation which did not detected petroleum hydrocarbons or oxygenates in
the soil samples collected from Borings BFS-1 and BFS-2
TPH, BTEX, MTBE and other oxygenates were detected in the groundwater sample
from Boring BFS-1 QST believes these constituents were not detected in Boring
BFS-2 groundwater sample due to the shallow depth of groundwater sampling Given
the absence of a known MTBE source onsite and the presence of MTBE in
groundwater, the cause of the petroleum hydrocarbon impact to groundwater must be
from an offsite source These constituents are found at other sites in the vicinity of the
former BFS facility which claim the oxygenates are from an offsite source Therefore,
the petroleum hydrocarbons detected during QST investigation could possibly be the
result of a regional groundwater problem
Based on the additional environmental information provided in this letter, QST requests
no further action be required at this site and that site closure be granted
0 0 0 0 0
Our professional services have been performed using that degree of care and skill
ordinarily exercised under sunilar circumstances by other geologists and engineers
practicing in this field.
