R17N <br /> • ATTACHMENT 3 <br /> FIELD INVESTIGATION PROCEDURES AND <br /> QA/QC PROCEDURES FOR SOIL SAMPLING <br /> Drilling and Soil Sampling Methods <br />' The boring was drilled with 8-inch-diameter, hollow-stem, continuous-flight augers Soil <br /> samples were collected with a modified California sampler containing three brass tubes, <br /> each 2 inches in diameter and 6 inches in length The sampler was driven to the <br /> sampling depth by dropping a 140-pound hammer approximately 30 inches Samples <br /> were collected at 5 feet below ground surface and at 5-foot intervals thereafter <br /> Immediately after the sampler was retrieved from the auger, it was placed on a portable <br /> field stand near the boring and the brass tubes were removed The ends of one of the <br /> tubes were covered with Teflon, capped with polyvinyl chloride end caps, and sealed in a <br /> plastic bag The sealed tubes were placed in a portable ice chest and cooled with ice <br /> until delivery to the laboratory for analysis <br /> Y <br /> Sample labels were used to identify the soil-filled brass tubes The label information <br /> p <br /> included project number, project name, boring number, sample depth, date, time, and <br /> signature of the person preparing the samples The same sample was visually examined <br /> and the results of the visual observation were recorded on the boring logs <br /> Preservation and Delivery of Soil Samples <br /> Chemical preservatives were not used in the soil sampling program The samples were <br /> stored on ice in the field and transported in a portable ice chest to the analytical <br /> laboratory The samples were delivered to the analytical laboratory by United Parcel <br /> Service (UPS) within 24 hours of sample collection <br /> Chain-of-Custody Records <br /> records were completed before the samples were packaged for <br /> Chain-of-custody p P <br /> shipment One copy of these records was placed in the project file The second copy <br /> accompanied the samples during transportation to the laboratory Analytical laboratory <br /> personnel accepted responsibility for the samples by signing and dating the form <br /> Equipment Decontamination Procedures <br /> Soil sampling equipment was decontaminated between sampling events using the <br /> following procedures <br />' S\BFS\STOCKTON\LTR\LTR004 DOC 7/7/00 <br />
