I'
Ile Vacuum Extraction Syste© Vorkplan October, 1992
Firestone Store, 408, H. El Dorado, Stockton, Cb Page b of 8
volatile hydrocarbon capture zone. The y p h final depth of each well
will be determined by field screening the soils at the bottom of
' the wells. If soils are stained or emit a strong odor, the well
will be extended another five feet. These five foot increments
will be extended until either the soil samples are not stained or
' a strong odor me not generated from the soil samples.
Two soil samples from each well will be submitted to a certified
' laboratory for the TPH and STEX analysis. One sample will be from
between 12 to 16 feet ( based on known soil hydrocarbon profile), or
a stained//odorous strata, if encountered, and a second sample will
be retrieved at the bottom of each boring. This technique will
' allow faster installation of the system while providing a better
vertical and horizontal hydrocarbon distribution pattern.
' Each boring, however, will be logged by a registered geologist and
appropriate permits will be acquired from the County prior to
installation of the vapor extraction wells. Each well will be
screened from the bottom to four feet below ground surface. The
annular space will be filled with sand to one foot above the top of
the screen. A bentonite and lean cement mixture will be provided
to seal the remainder of the well. For the wells within the
sidewalk on N. El Dorado St. , a well cap and cover will be provided
to protect the well from pedestrian traffic. Within the building,
the wells will extend up through the flooring, to allow easier-
access
asieraccess and maintenance of the wells.
Each well will be equipped with a pipe adapter capable of accepting
a pressure/vacuum gauge. These adapters will be used during the
pilot test to determine vacuum within the sods. These readings
will allow determination of capture zone and radius of influence at
each well.
' Pioxna. A two inch PVC pipe will be connected to each well. The
piping will be provided with a 2 inch ball valve to isolate each
' well from the vacuum manifold. The piping will be connected to the
inlet connection of a vacuum pump at the vapor extraction unit.
The piping from the wells located in the sidewalk will be buried
beneath the concrete sidewalk. The piping within the building will
be supported from the floor of the room.
Vaipor. _Extraction and Air Treatment Unit. The proposed vapor
extraction unit will be provided by XIT Technologies. The unit me
mounted on a trailer and comes equipped with an oxidizer, vacuum
pump, LEL monitor, strip charts, and a programmable logic
controller to control the operation of the unit.
