12 August 1996
AGE-NC Project No 95-0142
22 COLLECTION OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Water samples were collected from each purged well using new, clean disposable plastic bailers
' Immediately upon retrieval, the samples were transferred into 40-m1 VOA vials containing
hydrochloric acid as a preservative, and were transported to McCampbell Analytical, Inc (MAI) in
Pacheco, California All samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as
gasoline (TPI -g), volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes BTE&X) and
methyl-tert-butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA,methods 801515030, 602 and 602
23 COLLECTION OF PURGED WATER SAMPLES
Two drums of purged water are present on-site At the request of Stockton Plating, one sample was
collected from each drum for disposal characterization The samples were collected using a
disposable plastic bailer One 40-m1 VOA vial of water was collected from each drum The samples
were labeled and transported under chain-of-custody to MAI for analysis Each sample was analyzed
for TPH-g and BTE&X in accordance with EPA methods 5030/8015 and 602, respectively
3 0. FINDINGS
3 1 GROUND WATER GRADIENT AND DIRECTION
' The depth to ground water at the site ranged from 34 24 feet to 34 96 feet The data indicates an
average increase of ground water elevation of nearly one foot since March 1996 Ground water flow
direction is northeast to east During the June 1996 monitoring, the gradient was approximately
0 012 ft/ft at the west end of the site and becomes more shallow (0 006 ft/ft) towards the east end
of the site The relative elevation of ground water is illustrated on Figure 3 - Relative Ground Water
' Elevation
' 32 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
TPH-g was detected in each well sampled at concentrations up to 220,000,ug/l (micrograms per liter
' or parts per billion ppb, VW-1) BTE&X were detected in samples from VW-1 at concentrations
up to 46,000 ppb (toluene,VW-I) MTBE was detected in samples from MW-4, VW-1 and VW-2
at concentrations up to 850 ppb (VW-1) Analytical results of the ground water samples are
' summarized in Table 2 The laboratory report (MAI Laboratory I D Nos 65623 through 65627)
and chain-of custody are included in Appendix B
