11 I r 1 1 <br /> v t t <br /> ' y r <br /> 1 S J h <br /> . 15 November 2000 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 95-0142 <br /> -Page 5 of 9 n <br /> s <br /> r <br /> 3 1 PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES <br /> Applicable site assessment permits will,be obtained from the PHS-EHD In addition, an update to <br /> the health and safety plan presently on-file will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety <br /> and Health Guidance Manual for flazardous -Waste Site Activities (National Institute for <br /> Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U S Coast Guard and U S Environmental <br /> Protection Agency, 1985) Prior to mobilization, the ground water extraction well location will be <br /> clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert <br /> 3 2 DRILLING, SOIL SAMPLING AND WELL INSTALLATION/DEVELOPMENT <br /> f T <br /> AGE proposes to install two six-inch diameter ground water extraction wells to evaluate the <br /> feasibility of ground water extraction at the site The proposed ground water extraction well will be <br /> placed in the area of highest hydrocarbon and MTBE contamination at the site in the former UST <br /> area and 15 feet south east of former UST area(See Figure 2) The extraction wells will be screened <br /> from 30 to 60 feet bsg to address highly impacted soil zone from 25 to 60 feet bsg and the most <br /> impacted ground water ` <br /> • <br /> Following installation, the extraction well will be developed to maximize water flow into the well <br /> and minimize the amount of fine-grained sediment drawn into the well during pumping or bailing <br /> Procedures for well installation and development are presented in Sections 4 2 and 4 3, respectively <br /> The soil boring will be advanced with 8 25-mch and 15-inchlhollow-stem augers The 8 25-inch <br /> augers will be utilized to advance the initial pilot boring and to collect soil samples - <br /> Soil samples will be collected at 5-f6ot intervals from 10 feet bsg to total depth using a California , <br /> split-spoon sampler and brass sleeves Each soil sample sleeve will be labeled with boring location, <br /> vertical depth, sampling time, date and sampler's initials, and will be transferred to a DHS-certified <br /> analytical laboratory under chain of custody for laboratory analysis All sampling tools and brass <br /> sleeves used fo'r sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean water after washing with a <br />} solution of Alconox All augers will be cleaned prior to advancement In each b1oring location <br /> 1 , <br /> Following well installation, the well will be developed to maximize water flow into the well and <br /> minimize the amount of fine-grained sediment drawn into the well during pumping and sampling <br /> Procedures for well installation and development are presented in Sections 4 2 and 4.3 , respectively <br /> r ' <br /> 1 <br /> • Advanced Geo@nviroomental,Inc <br /> 1 l <br /> 1 ` <br /> r ' <br />
