'l tta
23 April 2002
AGE-NC Project No 95-0142
Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U S Coast Guard and U S Environmental
Protection Agency, 1985) Prior to digging/drilling activities, each proposed digging/drilling location
will be clearly marked and an underground utility clearance obtained through Underground Service
Alert
3 2 INSTALLATION OF REMEDIATION WELLS
AGE proposes to install four additional, six-inch diameter ground water extraction wells along the
eastern edge of the yard (Figure 2), down-gradient of the area of highest-known ground water
contamination Based on the distribution of hydrocarbon-impacted ground water detected in samples
from the monitoring wells on the site,AGE proposes that three of the ground water extraction wells
along the eastern edge of the yard be located approximately 20 feet apart (See Figure 2) The
extraction wells will be screened from 30 to 60 feet bsg to address the more permeable zone
(between 25 and 50 feet bsg), which contained the most intensely impacted ground water
Following installation, the extraction wells will be developed to maximize water flow into the wells
. and minimize the amount of fine-grained sediment drawn into the wells dunng pumping or bailing
Procedures for well installation and development are presented in Sections 4 3 to 4 4 ,respectively
The soil borings for the ground water extraction wells will be advanced with 12-inch hollow-stem
augers All augers will be cleaned prior to advancement in each boring location
33 WELL PUMPS, INSTALLATION AND PROCESS PIPING
It is anticipated that type 5E5 Grundfos Rediflow down-well pumps equipped with Franklin 1/3 hp,
230 volt,3-wire motors, will be installed in the new ground water extraction wells and in the existing
four-inch diameter wells A one-inch diameter, Schedule 40, PVC pipe will be installed from the
pump discharge to the surface
This well system is rated to remove up to five gallons of water per minute (gpm) To minimize
sediment intake through the pump, the bottom of each pump/motor assembly will be suspended
approximately 2 feet from the extraction well bottom, a safety chain will be attached to the pump
to prevent it from dropping to the well bottom Electrical wiring will be connected from the top of
the pump through Class I electrical connectors/Junction boxes and a electrical conduit to the pump
controller
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
