' Site Background Information Former Stockton Plating Facility
• Page 6 of 7
GROUND WATER EXTRACTION SYSTEM INSTALLATION
' Four 1 5-inch diameter, stainless steel QED Environmental model H23 SET pneumatic powered,
down-well pumps were installed in vapor extraction wells VW-1, VW-2, VW-3 and VW-4 The
' pumps were internally equipped with a one-way check valve to prevent back-flow The pumps were
installed in each well at a depth of approximately 45 feet bsg One-half inch diameter poly-vinyl
chloride (PVC) tubing was routed from each pump to the top of each well casing and through a 2-
inch diameter sanitary well seal In the remediation area, a manifold was created with independent
flow meters and a dedicated sampling port to allow sampling of each well Independently without
having to remove each respective well head assembly
On 02 February 2004, a 4-Inch diameter, stainless steel model 5S8 Grundfos Rediflow down-well
pump equipped with 230 volt 1/z-horsepower 3-wire motors were installed in ground water extraction
well EW-1 The Grundfos pump was installed in well EW-1 at a depth of approximately 65 feet
below surface grade (bsg) Schedule 40, 1-inch diameter PVC tubing was routed from the pump to
the top of the well casing and through a 4-inch diameter sanitary well seal In the remediation area,
' an independent flow meter and a sampling port was installed to allow sampling of the well without
having to remove the well head assembly
 i
Installation of Ground Water Treatment System
Three 2,000-gallon granular active carbon(GAC)media vessels,one 300-gallon poly tank(holding
tank), one process pump and one sediment filter chamber were installed for the ground water
treatment system
Ground water pumped from the recovery wells is initially routed via the piping system to the 300-
gallon poly tank(holding tank)prior to processing The holding tank is equipped with various water
level float controls to control the rate at which extracted water is introduced into the treatment
vessels, to allow coarser sediment to settle out prior to treatment and to provide safety shutoff
' capabilities A high float(high-high)was installed near the top of the holding tank and is designed
to shut the entire system down if water level exceeds the high-high float A middle float (high-
low)was Installed near the middle of the holding tank and is designed to turn on the process pump
when water level exceeds the high-low float A low float was installed near the bottom of the holding
tank(low-low) and is designed to turn off the process pump
1 A V2-horsepower, single-phase centrifugal process pump was installed inside the holding tank The
process pump is designed to process ground water through the treatment system at a maximum flow
rate of 10 gallons per minute (GPM)
An electrical control panel was installed adjacent the process tank and pump Electrical wiring from
' Advanced GcoEnvironmental,Inc
