NV W v 'rL y. !'!"„ -'
r _ _AppendlxrA Site Background lnfoxmation
Former Stockton Plating Facility
' The SVE system utilized two-Inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC piping installed underground from
each well-head at vapor extraction wells and ground water extraction wells EW-1 and EW-2 to the
inlet of the vacuum blower, the outlet from the vacuum blower was routed through the catalytic
' oxidizing unit A Magnehelic vacuum gauge was attached to the Inlet of the blower The air flow
was monitored using a Dwyer DS-200 flow sensor The flow rate was determined from the measured
differential pressure and the piping diameter using a nomograph The vapor stream at the SVE inlet
' was monitored for the presence of organic vapor using an OVA
Sampling ports were Installed upstream of the vacuum blower Inlet to recover Influent soil-gas vapor
stream samples, and downstream of the catalytic converter to recover effluent stream samples to
monitor the efficiency of hydrocarbon destruction
I
SVE System Design and Supplemental Energy
On 17 November 2003, a Solleco-manufactured EnvioPure 250 catalytic oxidizer soil-vapor
extraction unit(SVE)was delivered to the site by AGE An SVE network was Installed connecting
wells VW-1 through VW-4,ground water extraction wells EW-1 and EW-2 and the SVE unit using
' . 2-inch diameter schedule 40 PVC piping and 2-inch gate valves to control flow from Individual
wells The piping was placed in trenches, approximately 12-inches below surface grade The two-
Inch networked SVE inlet was connected to the SVE unit The influent line was routed through a
'
55-gallon moisture knockout vessel to a 7 5-horsepower, 250-maximum standard cubic feet per
minute (scfm)blower An in-line Dwyer Series 647 in-line differential pressure transmitter(DPT)
was installed in the 2 5-Inch influent line leading Into the SVE catalytic oxidation unit This meter
' Is monitored monthly to calculated the influent rate On 18 November 2003, the electrical power
source and electrical delivery lines were Installed, the electrical line was Inspected and approved by
the City of Stockton Buildmg Department on 08 December 2003 An electrical meter was also
' installed by Pacific Gas and Electric on 09 December 2003
' SVE Start-Up
The EnviroPure 250 SVE system began operation on 09 December 2003 The initiation of the SVE
' operation was authorized by representatives of the San Joaquin Unified Air Pollution Control
District(APCD)and inspected by the EHD The SVE unit operation is conducted in accordance with
APCD permit N-5011-1-0
Measurement of the SVE flow rate, vacuum(potential), concentrations of the extracted soil-vapor
and collection of a set of soil-vapor samples were observed by the EHD personnel The samples
' were collected to document baseline concentrations of hydrocarbon vapor in the soil-vapor extracted
• by the SVE network and to determine the SVE hydrocarbon destruction rate
' Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
