SITE INVESTIGATION
1014 N. El Dorado Street
Stockton, California
INTRODUCTION
Prior to the sale of the referenced property, Budget Rent-A-Car
retained Geological Audit Services to determine whether previous
operation of underground storage tanks (UST's) at the facility had
contaminated soil or groundwater at the site. Geological Audit
Services recommended the drilling of several shallow borings in the
area of the former UST' s and dispenser islands and the collection
of samples for laboratory analysis. A work plan was submitted to
the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department on 13 March
1992 and approved on 19 March 1992 . The buyers of the property have
asked the present owners to obtain official site closure prior to
the sale, if possible.
SITE DESCRIPTION
The site is located in a flat light industrial/commercial area of
central Stockton (Figure 1 - Location Map, 7 . 5 Minute Stockton West
Quadrangle, USGS Topographic Map Series, 1987) . Formerly, the site
was a gasoline service station, and the former station building and
dispenser island canopies are still present on the property. The
underground storage tank facility apparently consisted of five fuel
tanks, one waste oil tank, three fueling islands and their
associated piping. According to existing records, all tanks, piping
and dispensers have been removed from the site. The property is
currently unoccupied.
The site is underlain by unconsolidated Quaternary alluvial
sediment. The upper twenty feet consists of clayey sands to silty
sands. First groundwater is estimated at 45-55 feet below surface
grade (San Joaquin County Department of Public Works, Flood Control
Section, 1990) .
PREVIOUS WORK
According to records at the San Joaquin County - Environmental
Health Division (SJEHD) , three to five underground tanks were
removed from the property by an unknown contractor in 1984 (see
Figure 2 - Site Plan) . The records do not indicate whether soil
samples were collected or analyzed. The excavation was apparently
backfilled and covered with asphalt.
In February 1988, under the direction of BSK & Associates, one soil
boring was drilled to a depth of 26. 5 feet in the southeast portion
of the property, where the fuel tanks were located. Six samples
were collected from the boring and analyzed for total petroleum
