MW-3 and MW-4 Well MW-2 is sampled sena-annually The measured direction of groundwater flow
was northeasterly This was consistent with historic trends Samples from both wells were analyzed for the
presence of TPHGas, BTEX constituents, and MTBE There were no dissolved petroleum hydrocarbons or
MTBE detected
A review of current groundwater conditions reveals that all three site-related wells have screen intervals
that are submerged These conditions have existed at wells MW-2 and MW-3 since 1995 and at well MW-
4 since 1996 Analytical results collected during the submerged screen period may not accurately
represent groundwater conditions However, a review of groundwater data collected prior to the well
screens becoming submerged indicate several noticeable trends For example, the prominent direction of
groundwater flow was toward the northeast Dissolved hydrocarbon concentrations at each well (including
MW-1) exhibited decreasing and/or non-detect levels There did not appear to be any extensive plume of
contamination remaming to groundwater This is particularly significant in the case of well MW-3 which
is located closest to and downgradient from the most probable hydrocarbon source area
Considering the above information, Chevron recommends that the subject site be considered for case
closure To facilitate this consideration, Chevron wtll instruct its consultant to prepare a closure summary
report for your agency's review The anticipated date of report subimttal is on or before April 15 1997 In
the meantime, all further groundwater monitoring will be suspended
If you have any questions or comments 1 can be reached at (510) 842-8695
Sincerely,
Brett L Hunter
. Environmental Engineer
Site Assessment and Remediation
E
