MA
1
5
F
Would damage the dispersing grid in the carbon scrub. hot 81r
h
is pushed through the carbon and then enters the "The TheCYCh Purge"
condensate tank, condensing the vapor stream into water and
gasoline. The vapor stream is then returned to the heater to
{ reheat the stream to 210QF prior to reentry into the carbon scrub
to continue the stripping of volatile organics and water from the
carboxy to complete the closed poop system. Rejuvenation continues
until no more liquid is produced from the en
ste t .
Nitrogen is used to purge the system of oxygen to insure againnsst
explosion. This technique was successful in
approximately 45%-50% of the absorbed hydrocarbons and water mvapor
from the carbon scrubs.
JUNE 5, 1991
With the limited success of rejuvenating the carbon with the
} "Cyclo Purge" it was decided to purchase two more carbon scrubs-
110 gallon units (dependent upon carbon density, approximately 450
pounds of carbon each) . These carbons arrived at the si
5, 1991. The " te on June
Cyclo Purge,, was removed from the vapor recovery
system and in its place 55 gallon moisture drop outs drums were
placed infront of and behind the pumps (2- DR 606 Rotron Blowers)
that were placed in parallel. That day the 6 85 gallon carbon-
scrubs were sent to Yakima for rejuvenation. The system was
restarted at 22:30..Pm,nulling vapors from pl P3, EX, MWI and MW5,
but . due to vacuum increases from theformation, the pumps auto
heat shut down occurred every` 11 minutes . and lasted for
approximately 2Q minute per pulp for 35% operation time. It was
determined that the eondesate (water drop out drums) were causing
an increase in the vacuum and overheating
were then placed the pumps. The pumps
in series and the vacuum recovery restarted
exhausting into the two 110
series, gallon carbon scrubs that were in
JUNE 7, 1991
Onsite analysis (using a "Photovac" IOS50 GC-PTD chromatograph)
showed that no vapors were being produced from PI and only
vapors from EX. These two wells were taken off of thminor
extraction system at that time. vapor
ti
The vapor extraction system operated until ,Tune 14, 1991 when it
was shut , down due to breakthrough of the second--110--gallon----
- - --canister-at-6;00-pm--(219.5-hrs/9.l-days).. During this time frame
the "Cyclo Purge" was used on occassions lto rejuvenate the first
carbon without shutting down the recovery system. But. on this
date the condensating system did not operate appropriately and
needed repairs, leak in the cooling. system.
5+s
page 10
