PILOT - SOURCE TEST PROCEDURES
Once the vapor extraction system has been manufactured a two week
test will begin. Notification will be sent to San Joaquin County
Air Quality (no permit is needed for pilot tests into charcoal) .
PID screening of the exhaust from the charcoal tub scrubs will
occur daily, the test will continue for two weeks or until
breakthrough occurs at which time the test will be terminated. At
the start up of the test, influent samples will be obtained from
vapor wells P1, P3 and EX, and an influent and effluent samples
from the activated charcoal. The vapor well samples will be
analyzed for Total Volatile Hydrocarbons, Benzene, Toluene,
Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes using Western Geo-Engineers Portable
Laboratory. The influent and effluent samples obtained from the
charcoal canisters will be preserved, chain of custody delivered
to Chemtech Laboratories for analysis of Total Fuel Hydrocarbons
and Benzene, using EPA methods 5030 and X502 respectively. Once
breakthrough is indicated by PIP readings, influent and effluent
samples will be obtained from the charcoal canisters and taken to
Chemtech Laboratories. Through out the test, vacuum, temperature
and vapor readings will be obtained from the vapor extraction
wells and vacuum readings from the six onsite ground water
monitoring wells.
Vapor readings will be obtained from a modified Gastech LEL
detector that is capable of detecting volatile organic vapors down
to 200 parts per million. The vacuum and pressure readings will
be obtained from a monometer as inches of water.
This Pilot test will help evaluate the amount of fuel range
hydrocarbons available and the economics concerning vapor
extraction for soil and ground water remediation at this site.
If you have any questions, please call (916) 662-4541.
LIMITATIONS
This report is based upon the following:
A.
