• WATER SAMPLES
The new monitors wells will be sampled approximately 72 hours after
development along with the pre-existing wells.
METh0DS AND PROCEDURES
Using a resistance probe, WEGE personnel measured the depth to
water prior to sampling each well. Product thickness is then
measured using a cleaned, clear bailer. A fresh bailer is used
for each well. These special bailers are designed and built by
WEGE to recover the exact product thickness. If no product as
present in the well a water sample is collected.
The well is purged before collecting water samples. This is
accomplished by pumping at least four well volumes from the well.
PurgLag is continued until the water quality parameters
(temperature, pH, and conductivity) stabilized. Water produ,:;ed
from the well during the purging process is collected in a 55-
gallon drum.
x
The well is allowed to recover after purging. A water sample is
then collected with a fresh bailer. Each sample is divided among
four 40-m1 vials. The vials are supplied by a chemical supply
company and are pre-cleaned to exact 'EPA protocols. The saaple
vials were labeled as to station, well, time and sampler, and
documented on the chain-of-custody sheet. They were then placed
into an ice chest and cooled to 4[C with ice. The samples are then
hand delivered to a California State Certified Lab and signed over
to the lab using standard chain-of-custody procedures.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
The borings will be continuously monitored with a Photoaonizing
Detector (PID) along with periodically monitoring the site and
work area. All personnel involved with this site have a current
OSHA-SARA Certificate of Training, see Appendix E-Health and
Safety Plan. The site, until found otherwise, is being treated as
class D.
We wash to start drilling these wells during the week of July 23-
27, 1990. Your expediting our permits is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely yours, j
'W--lir
Geor L. Converse Jack E. Nr3.. t
Project Geologist CA.
