E1 Dorado Street and Harding Way, Stockton, California.
Dear Mr. Margowski:
INTRODUCTION
This letter documents the scheduled start up of the pilot test
for vapor extraction into activated charcoal at the above
mentioned site.
PILOT TEST
Gasoline range hydrocarbons were known to exist beneath the pump
island dispensors and undergound storage tank areas. The tank
excavation and product dispensor areas were overexcavated and the
majority of contaminated soil has been removed, aerated, and then
used as compacted engineered fill for the excavations. Pea gravel
was first used to backfill the excavations to the 12 foot depth
followed by the coynpacted native soil to the surface, see figure
3D-Areas of pea gravel and wells. On October 8 and 9, 1990 three
vapor extraction wells were xnatalled into these excavated areas
to the 40 foot depth using 2 inch SCH 40 PVC with 0.02 inch slot
casing for the wells.
On December 5, 1990, activated charcoal in 85 gallon tub scrubs
were delivered to the site, and on December 6, 1990 the wells were
manifolded to the treatment area, above ground. The blower will
be installed on December 10, 1990, at which time the test will
begin.
TEST PROCEDURES
- The test will proceed for a duration of one month or until )creak
through, which ever occurs first. Vapor extraction wells P1 , P3
and EX will be connected to a vacuum system (IMP Rotron Blower)
7i
