El Dorado Street and Harding Way, Stockton, California.
Dear Mr. Margow&ki:
INTRODUCTION
This letter documents the results of the pilot test for vapor
extraction into activated charcoal at the above mentioned site. '
PILOT TEST
1 Gasoline range hydrocarbons were known to exist beneath the pump
island dispensers and undergound storage tank areas. The tank
excavation and product dispenser areas were overexcavated and the
majority of contaminated soil was removed, aerated, and then used
as compacted engineered fill for the excavations. Pea gravel was
- first used to backfill the excavations to the 12 foot depth _
followed by the compacted native soil to the surface. On October
8 and 9, 1990 three vapor extraction wells were installed into
these excavated areas to the 40 foot depth using 2 inch SCH 40 PVC
with 0.02 inch slot casing for the wells.
On December 5, 1990, activated charcoal in four-85 gallon tub
scrubs was delivered to the site, and on December 6, 1990 the
wells were manifolded to the treatment area, above ground. The
blower was installed on December 10, 1990, and the test began
that same clay. Leaks were discovered in the pump on December 13,
1990 and the test was temporarily discontinued until the pump was
fixed. The test was restarted Pn December 27, 1990 and terminated
on January 4, 1991, when breakthrough was noted on the exhaust of
the 4 .85 gallon charcoal canisters.
TEST PROCEDURES
The test was to proceed for a duration of one month or until break
through, which ever occurred first. Vapor extraction wells P1 , P3
