California . <br /> Dear Mr: Ralston: <br /> This letter, prepared by IT Corporation.(IT)-on behalf of Tosco Marketing-Company <br /> (Tosco),-presents a work plan describing proposed site'assessment work at the site <br /> referenced above (Figure 1): The purpose of this work is.to definethe vertical and <br /> horizontal extent of gasoline hydrocarbons in soil and groundwater at the subject site. This <br /> will be accomplished by installing four-monitoring wells (MW=1 through MW-4). This <br /> investigation is being conducted iri response to a Ietter from the San Joaquin County <br /> Environmental Health-Department (SJCEHD) dated August 23, 1999. <br /> SITE BACKGROUND <br /> The site is located on the northeast comer-of Harding Way and El Dorado Street in <br /> Stockton,California-The site is a-former Unocal service station that retailed gasoline and <br /> diesel'fue1. <br /> On April 7, 1999, three--USTs were removed from the site during UST divestment <br /> activities. The tanks were 10,000-gallon capacity with two containing gasoline and.one <br /> containing diesel. The USTs were-removed by Johri's Excavating of Santa Rosa, <br /> California. The UST excavation.was approximately 35 feet by 40 feet by 15 feet deep: Six <br /> soil samples were collected from beneath the removed USTs on April 7, 1999. The <br /> excavation was deepened beneath the center of the wekerri tank to approximately 18 feet <br /> below ground surface (bgs) and one additional soil sample was collected to confirm that <br /> petroleum hydrocarbon:.impacted soil.was removed. All soil sample from-the base of the <br /> UST:excavation were ND for petroleum hydrocarbons. <br /> Soil samples were collected from beneath the removed dispensers and associated piping on <br /> April 8, 1999.
