Soil samples
for chemical analysis will be retained in the brass liners, labeled, and capped with Teflon
sheets and plastic end caps. The samples will then be sealed in zip-lock bags, placed on
ice, and transported to the laboratory accompanied by the appropriate chain-of-custody
documentation.
Soil Sampling of Stockpiled Soil
Soil samples will be collected by advancing 2-inch diameter brass sample liners
approximately six inches to one foot into the soil stockpile. One composite sample (4-1)
will be collected per approximately 100 cubic yards of soil. Soil samples for chemical
-- analysis will be retained in the brass liners, labeled, and capped with Teflon sheets and
plastic end caps. The samples will then be sealed in zip-lock bags, placed on ice, and
transported to the laboratory accompanied by the appropriate chain-of-custody
documentation.
Laboratory Analysis of Soil and Groundwater Samples
Analysis for total petroleum hydrocarbons calculated as gasoline (TPH-g) will be
performed by modified EPA method 8015. Analysis for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene,
and xylenes (BTEX compounds) and methyl-tert butyl ether (MtBE) will performed by
EPA Method 8020. Oxygenates including MtBE will be analyzed in groundwater and one
soil sample by EPA Method 8260. Samples from stockpiled soil will be analyzed for
total lead using EPA Method 6010.
