i
27" of tan to light brown slightly clayey sand; very fine to
medium grained, with some dark minerals. There was no evidence
of contamination or odors; a portion placed in the sealed tube,
(as described earlier, ) did not record any reading on the PID
meter. The middle tube was sealed and preserved by the method
used for the first core. While the core was being described and
preserved, the other core barrel was thoroughly cleaned with TSP
& warm water, filled with clean brass tubes, and set aside for
use.
The next core was taken from 3' to 32' 6" as described pre-
viously; when retrieved and opened, it contained 20" of coarse,
gray, moist sand, fairly well sorted, with very little clay. It
graded to soft, loose coarse sand & gravel. There was no evi-
dence of contamination, and a PID reading from the bottom portion
of the core did not show any response when inserted into the
sealed tube. The middle tube was sealed, labeled, and preserved
according the standard field procedures described earlier.
The augers were advanced to 35' , a clean core barrel was in-
serted, and a core was taken from 35' to 37' 6" Recovery con-
sisted of 18" of coarse gravel, brown to gray, unconsolidated,
. with minor amounts of sand. Some gravels were 3/4" to 1" in
size. There were no odors or evidence of staining, a PID reading
from a portion of the bottom of the core was zero (0. ) The middle
tube was sealed, labeled and preserved by standard procedures.
The augers were advanced to 40' , and a core was taken from 40' to
42' 6" as described earlier. Recovery was 30" of coarse gravel
grading to tan to brown mottled clay_ The clay contained inclu-
sions & stringers of a white material, (possibly gypsum. ) There
was no evidence of contamination, and a PID reading from the
bottom portion was zero. The middle tube was sealed and pre-
served per standard protocol.
Drilling continued to 45' , and a core was taken from 45' to 47' 6"
as described above. Recovery was 30" of tan clay, fairly hard
but plastic, moist, with a mottled appearance. There were veins
& stringers of the white material that was noted in the previous
core. The PID meter reading was zero. The middle tube was
sealed and preserved as before.
The next core was taken from 50' to 2' 6" ' recovery was 27" of
tan to light brown clay, dry, slightly plastic, with occasional
sandy portions. There was no reading on the PID meter; the
middle tube was sealed and preserved.
. Drilling continued to 55' ; and a core was taken form 55' to
5
