The next core, from 35' to 3706" consisted of 18" of loose,
slightly damp coarse gravel, tan to brown to gray, with a minor
amount of fine to medium grained sand. There was no odor or
staining, and no reading with the PID meter from a sample at 36' _
The sample at 36' was sealed and preserved per standard field
procedures.
The augers were advanced to 40' , a clean core barrel inserted,
and a core was taken from 40' to ' 6'" Recovery was 12" of
coarse sand & gravel (to 1" ) loose, moist. No evidence of
contamination was noted, and the PID reading was zero on a
Portion of the core. The second tube was sealed and preserved_
The next core, from 45' to 7' 6" , consisted of 30" of tan to buff
to brown clay, firm, not plastic; with a mottled appearance.
Again, there was no evidence of contamination, and the PID meter
read zero from a soil sample at 47' . The middle tube, (46' , ) was
sealed & preserved per standard procedures.
The augers were advanced to 50' , a clean core barrel was inserted
and the interval from 50' to 5, 2' 6" was cored as described
previously. Recovery consisted of 30" of tan to buff sandy clay,
grading to tan to brown, soft, dry, fine to very fine-grained
silty sand. No staining or odor was noted; a sample of core at
52' was screened by the PID meter by the method described
earlier; there was no response recorded. The middle tube was
sealed and preserved per standard procedures.
The next core was taken from 55' o 57' 6" ; recovery was 15" of
tan to brown sandy, silty clay, grading to fine to medium-grained
very silty dry sand_ A portion of the core at 56' was screened
with the PID meter; no reading was noted. The second tube, (561 )
was sealed and preserved as above.
Augering resumed to 601 , where a clean core barrel was inserted
into the flights_ The interval from 60' to 62'6" was cored; when
the core barrel was retrieved and opened, it consisted of 24" of
tan to light brown, very fine to fine-grained silty sand, fairly
firm & dry. The core head contained a 1/4" streak of micaceous
sticky blue clay. There was no reading noted on the PID meter
from a portion of the core at 62' . The middle tube was sealed
and Preserved as described above.
The next core was taken from recovery consisted of
18 ' of tan to brown, slightly plastic clay, grading to fine to
medium-grained tan sand, soft, damp, containing abundant mica &
• femags, & minor amounts of clay. No contamination was noted; a
8
