. Subsurface Conditions
Three exploratory soil borings were advanced on-site at the locations shown on Figure 1 The
pavements are underlain by salty clay to depths of about 12- to 14 feet This clay is in turn
underlain by sandy clay and clayey sand to depths of about 20-feet These sandy strata may
contain thin fine sand and clay interbeds several inches thick and compose the aquifer The
boreholes were terminated at a depth of 21 5-feet into a clay strata which is assumed to be
continuous aquitard under the site
Groundwater was encountered in each borehole at depths of roughly 12-feet and is interpreted
to be unconfined to weakly confined in this area Slow entry was observed in some boreholes
The irrigation canal lust north of the site was filled with water and was flowing to the east The
groundwater elevation data indicate an southwesterly direction of flow The low gradient was
calculated at 0 014
Chemical Analysis and Results
Nine soil and six groundwater samples were analyzed at Priority Environmental Laboratories,
Inc in Milpitas, CA, a State certified analytical laboratories Samples were tested for the
following, Total Petroleum hydrocarbons as Gasoline (TPHG), as Aviation Fuel (TPHA), as
Kerosene (TPHK), Benzene (B), Toluene (T), Ethylbenzene (E), Xylene (X), Methyl-tertial-
buytl-ether (MBTE) and Total Lead using EPA Methods 5030, 8015, 8020, 602 and 7420
• The results are attached (see Appendix D) and listed below in Tables 1 and 2
TABLE 1 SOIL CHEMICAL DATA
Sample TPHG TPHK TPHA Ben Tol Ethyl Xyl MBTE Lead
No --------mg/kg------ ------------ug/kg------------------ mg/kg
MW-1-2 ND ND ND ND NO ND ND ND 90
MW-2-2 ND ND ND NO NO ND ND ND 52
MW-3-2 ND 11 ND NO ND NO ND NO 45
Soil Stockpile ND ND ND ND NO NO ND ND ND
Blank ND NO ND ND ND NO ND ND NO
TABLE 2 GROUNDWATER CHEMICAL DATA
Sample TPHG TPHK TPHA Ben Tol Ethyl Xyl MBTE Lead
No ---------------------------ug/I------------------------- mg/kg
MW-1 ND ND ND NO ND ND ND ND ND
MW-2 ND ND 340 ND NO ND ND ND NO
MW-3 ND NO ND ND NO ND ND ND NO
Drum Water ND ND ND ND ND ND ND ND NO
Blank ND NO ND ND ND ND ND ND ND
• NO - Not Detected mg/kg - milligram per kilogram
ug/kg - microgram per kilogram ug/I - microgram per liter
Haley Wells Project No 4111 Page 3
