Fourth Quarter 1998 Monitoring and Sampling Report and Work Plan for Additional Subsurface Investigation 4
The Southland C2M2ration,Store#19976 1399 North Main Street Manteca CA January 29 1999
lateral extent of contamination at this site
' On September 2 and 3, 1998, Fluor Daniel GTI supervised the drilling of two soil borings to a depth of 30
feet BGS and one soil boring to a depth of 50 feet BGS using a drilling rig equipped with an 8-Inch and 10-
Inch diameter hollow-stem augers Three groundwater monitoring wells, one of which is dual-nested, were
installed in the three bonngs (MW-1, MW-1A, MW-2, and MW-3) at the locations shown on Figure 2 Sod
samples were collected from each soil boring at 5-foot intervals to a maximum depth of 50 feet BGS
beginning at 5 feet BGS using a split-spoon sampler lined with 2-inch-diameter by 6-Inch-long brass sample
' tubes
Twelve soil samples were selected for analysis of BTEX,MTBE, and TPH-G by EPA methods 8020/8015
modified, and three of the twelve sod samples were also analyzed for the oxygenates MTBE, TBA, DIPE,
' ETBE, and TAME using EPA method 8260 Table 1 summarizes the laboratory analytical results for the
soil samples collected from the three sod bonngs drilled on September 2 and September 3, 1998
' On September 16, 1998, groundwater samples were collected using disposable bailers, then transferred to
40-milliliter glass vials filled to zero headspace and acidified to a pH of 2 The samples were sealed using
Teflon(&-septum caps, labeled, placed on ice in an Insulated container, and transported under
chain-of-custody to state-certified Core Laboratories in Anaheim, California The groundwater samples
' were analyzed for BTEX, and TPH-g using EPA Methods 8020/modified 8015, and for TBA, MTBE, DIPE,
ETBE, and TAME by EPA Method 8260 Table 2 summarizes the laboratory analytical results for
groundwater samples collected on September 16,1998
PROPOSED FURTHER INVESTIGATION
' The purpose of further work at the site is to further define the vertical and lateral extent and concentrations
of hydrocarbons at this site, as required by the SJCEHD in their letter dated January 13, 1999, and collect
information substantiating either 1) no further action, 2) closure after site-specific risk analysis, or 3)the
need for further remediation efforts
SITE-SPECIFIC HEALTH AND SAFETY PLANIPERMITTING
A site-specific Health and Safety Plan has been prepared by IT Corporation as required by the
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standard "Hazardous Waste Operations and
Emergency Response"guidelines (29 CFR 1910 120) The document will be reviewed and signed by all IT
' Corporation personnel and subcontractors performing work at the site
SOIL BORINGS/SOIL SAMPLING
IT Corporation will supervise the advancement of three soil borings at the locations shown on the attached
' Figure 2 using a truck-mounted drill rig equipped with 8-inch outside-diameter(O D) hollow-stem augers
The borings will be drilled to approximately 50 feet below ground surface (BGS) or deeper depending on
dissolved hydrocarbon concentrations takers from field samples A flame ionization or photo ionization
IT CORFKPATPON +
I
