Health and Safety Plan 15 <br /> The Southland Corp-Store located at 1399 N Main St, Manteca, CA September 19, 1996 <br /> 43 Site Control: Work Zones <br /> Work zones will be established in order to (1) delineate high-traffic locations, (2) identify hazardous <br /> locations,and (3) contain contamination within the smallest area possible Employees entering the work <br /> zone must wear the proper PPE for that area Work and support areas will be established based on <br /> ambient air data, necessary security measures, and site-specific conditions Listed in Table 8 are general <br /> guidelines for developing site secunty and work zone definitions <br />' Table 8 Site Security and Work Zone Definition <br />' WORKING IN STREET OR ROADWAY <br /> ■ Wear traffic vest and hardhat when vehicle hazard exists <br />' ■ Use cones, flag-mounted cones, caution tape, and/or barricades <br /> ■ Use vehicle strobe light and block area with truck <br /> ■ Develop traffic patternization plan for high traffic situations <br /> • use flag person, <br />' use flashing arrow sign, <br /> • use "MEN WORKING"signs liberally, <br /> • obtain lane closing permits, and <br /> • <br /> engage police details <br /> WORKING AT EXCAVATION/TRENCHING SITES <br /> ■ "Competent person" is required per CAL/OSHA Tale 8 CCR, Section 1504 <br /> ■ Safetyguard open excavations by restricting unauthorized access <br /> ■ Highlight work area using prominent warning signs (cones,saw horses/barncades, and <br /> signage) placed a minimum of 10 feet back from excavation opening <br /> ■ Maintain zone definition along perimeter with continuous string of yellow orange caution tape <br /> EXCAVATIONS LEFT UNATTENDED OR OVERNIGHT <br />' Use one of the following methods to address these situations <br /> ■ Surround entire perimeter with plastic or cloth construction net fencing Anchor fence to <br /> ground using steel posts driven into ground Space outposts no greater than 8 feet apart <br /> Fence height minimum 4 feet high Fence material must be of a quality capable of <br /> withstanding a pressure of 200 pounds Place fence a minimum of 10 feet back from <br /> excavation opening <br /> ■ Place 8-feet long barricades affixed with flashing lights end to end with 4-foot high construction <br /> net fence attached to barricades <br /> ■ Utilize temporary curbing or concrete "jersey" barriers affixed with flashing signal lights or other <br />' effective warning signs <br /> .
