`
GeologicaITeclutics/rsc. (.WWI Page 5
Dual Phase Extraction Pilot Test Work Plan
Valentine(Castle Motors)
Project No.764.2
r September 8,2003
I.r 2. Groundwater .Extraction Test.- measuring water level drawdown in surrounding
monitoring wells to determine aquifer characteristics for groundwater remediation.
Vapor extraction will continue during this second test.
The existing monitoring wells will also provide observation points to monitor vacuum
influence and draw down in the aquifer. The following wells will be fitted with Solinst
Level Loggers (See Appendix C for details) and vacuum caps:
Well tam: Screen Distance from -
L. -1
-
easurements based on map distances.
As stated above, current groundwater levels exceed these wells screens but they will be
monitored regardless in case groundwater drops significantly during the test.
Extracted vapor and groundwater.samples will be collected during the course of extraction
to evaluate the concentration changes through the test period. Influent soil vapor samples
will be collected at the beginning of extraction and at 8-hour increments. Groundwater
samples will be collected prior to start of pumping, immediately after pump startup, and
then at 8-hour intervals.
C2.5 Laboratory Analyses
+ Air Sample Analysis
.Soil vapor influent samples from EW-1 and system effluent samples will be submitted to
Air Toxics Ltd. of Folsom, California (State Certified Laboratory #02110) for the following
analysis by EPA Method TO-3:
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX)
• Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-Gas)
The detection limits for these compounds are listed below. A Chain of Custody will be
completed for all samples collected and tracked to ensure sample integrity.
etechonLimits: BTEX TPH-G
ppmv
Groundwater Sample Analysis
Groundwater samples from EW-1 will be submitted to Sherwood Laboratories of Hilmar
(State Certified Laboratory#1400) the following analysis:
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX) by EPA method 602
0 Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-Gas) by EPA method 5030/8015(m)
