V
Pa
Geologual Tecluucs lac. . - ge 7.
Additional Site Characterization Work Plan
Project No.724.2
March 15,2005
determined. The contaminant distribution information will then be used in estimation of the
contaminant mass.
3.2. Mass Estimation
Mass estimate calculations will be performed to determine the mass of gasoline present in
groundwater at this site. To accomplish this task the groundwater analytical data obtained
from this investigation and historical groundwater monitoring will be used. GTI will divide
up the -contaminated. zone into a. series.. of layers according to. geology/contaminant
concentrations. 'A..computer generated contour will be-used 'to estimate the area of
groundwater. that has been..impacted in each layer. The area is then multiplied by the
thickness of the layer(s) to get the combined volume of, soil and water in.the.layers: The
volume of groundwater is determined by multiplying the. porosity. of the soil times the
calculated total volume. The contaminant load is then multiplied with this number to give
the mass of contaminant in milligrams per .liter.. The contaminant mass in milligrams is then
converted to kilograms.
4.0 SCHEDULE & REPORTING.
•
Geological Technics Inc. anticipates beginning fieldwork no.later than 30 days after-work
plan approval, receipt of encroachment permits and upon issuance of the drilling permit. The
information gathered during-this phase of work will be presented in a report that will include
a summary.of the geology. Dr. Ray Kablanow, a registered professional geologist, will
supervise the project. Copies of the report will be forwarded to both the appropriate County
and State regulatory agencies (SJC/EHD and. CRWQCB-CVR). Groundwater monitoring
will continue on a quarterly .basis. A report will be issued for each monitoring event and
submitted to the County and State agencies.
The proposed schedule for the site characterization work is.as follows:
Task Description Completion Data
® Submit additional site characterization work plan March 2005
• Receive approval for,the work plan May 2005
Y ,Prepare budget/USTCFP.three bid process : .June 2005 -
e Advance CPT borings July 2005
® Prepare site characterization report/update site conceptual model September 2006
