1
1
California. The Sacramento Valley is composed of in excess of
25, 000 feet of sediments derived from erosion and uplift of the
' Sierra Nevada Batholith to the east. The sediments range in age
from Recent to Cretaceous & possibly older, and consist of sands,
gravels, silts, & clays produced by repeated reworking of the
' outwash from the Sierras_
Relief is very flat, less than 5' /mile, with drainage to the
' southeast towards the Sacramento-Stockton Delta area. The
Calaveras River is about one mile to the north-northeast, and
Mormon Slough is roughly 2 miles to the south. PLATE II, from a
USGS topographic sheet, shows the location of the property in
' relation to other nearby features.
SOIL C F T ON:
According to the 1952 publication issued by the University of
California, Berkley, the soil is this area is known as Stockton
Adobe Clay_ It is a dark grey to brown alluvial soil derived as
' outwash from basic igneous sources, (ie, the Sierra Nevada Bath-
olith ) It is considered to have imperfect drainage, having
hardpan subsoil layers generally underlain with unconsolidated
material. The Storie Index, 28, gives it a classification as
poor. PLATE III is a portion of a soils profile map from the
above publication
' DEPTH TO GROUN WA R:
Based upon the spring 1993 water table map issued by the San
' Joaquin County Flood Control District, groundwater was measured
at between 60' & 70' bgl at this location. Based upon published
data, the highest water level in the last 10 years was measured
' at about 27' bgl at this site.
PRIOR USE OF REMOVED US 'S:
The site had been the location of a gasoline station for many
years; the removed tanks had been used for dispensing gasoline
and storing waste oil. The property is presently being used as
' an automotive tune-up & repair facility, the dispensing pumps &
associated piping were removed along with the tanks. There are
no records available concerning the dates that the tanks were
installed
SUMMARY OF PRIOR-
December,
IORDece er 1986 - Application filed by Western Meter Service to
remove two (2) 3,000 gallon gasoline tanks and one (1 ) 150 gallon
waste oil tank from the property.
' 2
