' 1'1010 Inc Page 4 <br /> Site Oharacterizetion Report <br /> Valentine(Castle Motors) <br /> Project No 723 2 <br /> October 4, 1999 <br />' <br /> water was containerized in 55-gallon DOT-approved containers and stored a g PP t the back of the <br /> site until its disposition can be arranged The results of this monitoring will be reported in <br /> the Summer 1999 Quarter Monitoring Report, shortly <br />' 3.0 RESULTS OF INVESTIGATION <br />' The analytical results and field observations are discussed below Tabular summaries of all <br /> analytical data are included in Appendix A, and the boring logs are included in Appendix B <br /> A site map with soil boring and monitoring well locations is included as Figure 2 <br />' 3.1 Analytical Results <br /> Soil Sample Analysis <br />' • In summary, moderate to low levels of BTEX and TPH-G were detected in the four soil <br /> samples submitted for analysis <br /> • None of the oxygenated fuel compounds were detected in these samples <br />' • The 95 and 111-foot samples collected from SB-201 were not intact samples The tool <br /> was only driven 6 to 8 inches before refusal occurred at these two intervals In order to <br /> obtain enough soil to fill the sample sleeve, soil from the drive-shoe portion of the <br /> S1mulProbe was used It should be noted, however, that the soil in the shoe is in contact <br /> with the contaminated upper borehole waters so it is possible that the values detected in <br /> the samples are due to cross contamination from borehole waters <br /> 10 <br /> Table 1 In Appendix A is a full summary of all soil analytical data collected at the site <br /> Soil-Porewater Sample Analysis <br /> • In summary, significant levels of BTEX and TPH-G were detected in the three pore-water <br />' samples submitted for analysis <br /> • None of the oxygenated fuel compounds were detected, however, the detection limits had <br /> to be raised to very high levels due to the presence of high concentrations of BTEX and <br />' TPH-G <br /> • The results for the 98-foot sample from MW-101 and the 111-foot sample from SB-201 <br /> are questionable <br />' ❑ The 98-foot sample from MW-101 was collected in flowing sands Because the <br /> flowing sands at this interval, it is possible that borehole drill fluid was collected by <br /> the SimulProbe rather then formation water <br /> ❑ The 111-foot sample from SB-201 was collected after the tool was only driven 6 to 8 <br />' inches rather then the 18 inches that it should be driven It is highly possible that the <br /> porewater sample actually contained borehole water Once several quarters of <br /> samples have been collected from MW-101, it will become clearer as to the amount <br />' of contamination at this depth <br /> Table 2 in Appendix A is a full summary of all soil boring water sample analytical data <br />' collected at the site <br /> 3.2 Geology and Field Observations <br /> The following section discusses the subjective field observations and geology documented <br /> during this investigation based on the interpretations of the field geologist <br />
