' 1'1010 Inc Page 4
Site Oharacterizetion Report
Valentine(Castle Motors)
Project No 723 2
October 4, 1999
'
water was containerized in 55-gallon DOT-approved containers and stored a g PP t the back of the
site until its disposition can be arranged The results of this monitoring will be reported in
the Summer 1999 Quarter Monitoring Report, shortly
' 3.0 RESULTS OF INVESTIGATION
' The analytical results and field observations are discussed below Tabular summaries of all
analytical data are included in Appendix A, and the boring logs are included in Appendix B
A site map with soil boring and monitoring well locations is included as Figure 2
' 3.1 Analytical Results
Soil Sample Analysis
' • In summary, moderate to low levels of BTEX and TPH-G were detected in the four soil
samples submitted for analysis
• None of the oxygenated fuel compounds were detected in these samples
' • The 95 and 111-foot samples collected from SB-201 were not intact samples The tool
was only driven 6 to 8 inches before refusal occurred at these two intervals In order to
obtain enough soil to fill the sample sleeve, soil from the drive-shoe portion of the
S1mulProbe was used It should be noted, however, that the soil in the shoe is in contact
with the contaminated upper borehole waters so it is possible that the values detected in
the samples are due to cross contamination from borehole waters
10
Table 1 In Appendix A is a full summary of all soil analytical data collected at the site
Soil-Porewater Sample Analysis
• In summary, significant levels of BTEX and TPH-G were detected in the three pore-water
' samples submitted for analysis
• None of the oxygenated fuel compounds were detected, however, the detection limits had
to be raised to very high levels due to the presence of high concentrations of BTEX and
' TPH-G
• The results for the 98-foot sample from MW-101 and the 111-foot sample from SB-201
are questionable
' ❑ The 98-foot sample from MW-101 was collected in flowing sands Because the
flowing sands at this interval, it is possible that borehole drill fluid was collected by
the SimulProbe rather then formation water
❑ The 111-foot sample from SB-201 was collected after the tool was only driven 6 to 8
' inches rather then the 18 inches that it should be driven It is highly possible that the
porewater sample actually contained borehole water Once several quarters of
samples have been collected from MW-101, it will become clearer as to the amount
' of contamination at this depth
Table 2 in Appendix A is a full summary of all soil boring water sample analytical data
' collected at the site
3.2 Geology and Field Observations
The following section discusses the subjective field observations and geology documented
during this investigation based on the interpretations of the field geologist
