E1 Dorado Street
Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Ratliff:
Aegis Environmental, Inc. (Aegis) has been authorized by Shell Oil
Company (Shell) to comply with a request for additional
investigation from the San Joaquin County Public Health Services
(Agency) , for the above referenced site (Figure 1) . A letter from
your office dated December 27, 1990, requested additional soil
investigation in the location of the south-east pump island and by
former soil sample SL-2 . Figure 2 shows the locations of the pump
island, previous soil sample SL-2 , and proposed soil boring
locations (SB-1 and SB-2) .
The two proposed soil borings will be drilled with a trailer
mounted, hollow stem auger drill rig. This rig has a ten foot
mast, and can drill underneath the station canopy. The proposed
field methods that will be used is attached in Enclosure A.
The two borings will be sampled, while drilling, every five feet.
The samples will be analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene,
and xylenes, (BTEX) . The soil samples will be screened for the
presence of petroleum hydrocarbons with a hNu photoionization
detector. The two borings will be drilled to a minimum depth of 15
feet below grade or until two consecutive clean soil samples are
obtained.
After Aegis receives the analytical results of the soil samples, a
letter report will be submitted summarizing our findings and
possible suggesting site closure.
88A48D.LTR
GEOLOGISTS • ENGINEERS • GROUND WATER SCIENTISTS
