i
presence of petroleum hydrocarbons using a portable photoionization detector (PID), as well as
by observing and smelling the material for field-evident petroleum hydrocarbon contamination.
Soil cuttings will be placed in DOT-approved 55 -gallon steel drums, properly labeled and left
onsite pending laboratory results. .
For the scope of this work, the investigation will continue to a depth of 50 feet and until two (2)
consecutive samples do not show contamination by field measures, with soil sampling at 5 foot
intervals starting at 15 feet below grade. A minimum of four (4) samples will be selected for
analysis for TPHg, TPHd, TPHo, BTEX and MTBE/oxygentates, at least two (2) of which will
be from the saturated zone. In addition, a groundwater sample will be secured for analysis for
TPHg, TPHd, TPHo, BTEX and MTBE/oxygenates.
Groundwater samples will be obtained in a precleaned bailer, secured in 40 mL volatile organic
analysis vials, placed in a cooler with wet ice and delivered to a State certified laboratory with a
chain of custody documents.
Boring B-6 and B-7 will be back filled with neat cement applied by standard procedures and
used by experienced drilling contractors. A registered geologist or civil engineer will supervise
all operations.
8. 0 LABORATORY ANALYSIS
After extraction, the soil and water samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as
diesel, oil and gasoline (TPHg, TPHd and TPHo) by EPA Method 8015 . The groundwater
samples will also be analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX) by
EPA Method 8020, and Methyl tert-Butyl Ether (MTBE)/oxygenates by EPA Method 8260 . The
soil samples will be analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX) by
EPA Method 8020, and Methyl tert-Butyl Ether (MTBE)/oxygenates by EPA Method 8260.
9.0 REPORT PREPARATION
Section unchanged from the Work Plan dated 1 May 2000.
10. 0 HEALTH AND SAFETY
Section unchanged from the Work Plan dated I May 2000 .
Environeering, Inc.
