1
4.4 Floating Od
A September 1998 sample from groundwater monitoring well MW-2 found black, floating oil
' that appeared to be typical of used motor oil Floating oil has been removed from MW-2, using
disposable bailers, periodically since that time Approximately 10 1 gallons of floating oil have
' been removed through 27 June 2001
' 4.5 Groundwater Flow
The groundwater direction of flow for the area bounded by MW-1, MW-2 and MW-4 was
' inferred curving southeast at a gradient of 0 0013 ft/ft (Figure 3), groundwater direction of flow
in the area of MW-3 was inferred to be toward the southeast at a gradient of 0 0035 ft/ft
The flow gradient dropped very sigmficantly from previous quarters, approaching zero (0 001
' ft/ft)
Figure 4 shows groundwater elevations at various dates Elevations fluctuate over very
significant ranges (3 and 4 feet in 3 to 4 months), which will affect contamination levels, flow
direction, etc
4.6 Adjacent Site
This groundwater monitoring event was conducted concurrently with the Pacific Pride (PP) site
(3147 South El Dorado Street) Pacific Pride contracted Baumbach & Piazza Civil Engineers to
survey the groundwater monitoring wells on both sites EI chose to survey one PP groundwater
monitoring well (PP MW-3) in addition to the four wells present at CTL Elevation data from
the two surveys differ by an average of 0 02 feet, which is significant with gradients of 0 001
ft/ft Due to these differences in surveys, EI has chosen to use the data from Kier & Wright Civil
IEngineers to add PP MW-3 onto Figure 3 to help determine the flow direction for that area The
surveys can be found in Appendix A, Survey Information
Environeenng,Inc Project No 01-006 011 Page 5
