4.0 DISCUSSION
4.1 Waste Oil USTs
All groundwater samples, MW-2, B-3 and B-4 evidenced contamination from gasoline, BTEX
(partial) and MTBE Contamination levels were reasonably comparable, indicating that the
contaminants have dispersed fairly widely, probably beyond B-4 (45 ft ) and B-3 (20 ft )
Analysis of MW-2 sampled on 20 April 2000 shows contamination from motor oil, gasoline,
BTEX, MTBE, DIPE and diesel The former waste oil USTs are an apparent source of
groundwater contamination from a number of petroleum hydrocarbons
4.2 Diesel USTs
Both MW-1 and MW-3 evidenced diesel contamination and MW-1 also had low levels of ethyl
benzene and xylenes MTBE was not present in groundwater from either MW-1 or MW-3
It appears that the diesel contamination has spread in the groundwater from MW-1 to MW-3
(approximately 60 ft ) and also to MW-2
•' The sampling on 20 April 2000 confirmed the contamination in all three groundwater momtonng
wells The level of diesel contamination in MW-3 dropped to less than half the level in the
earlier sampling, while the level of diesel contamination in MW-1 increased slightly This may
Indicate that dilution (groundwater level increased four feet in four months) was a larger factor
than contamination flow in this quarter
4.3 Floating Oil
A September 1998 sample of groundwater monitoring well MW-2 found black, floating oil that
appeared to be typical of used motor oil Floating oil has been removed from MW-2 using
disposable bailers periodically throughout the first quarter Approximately 2 6 gallons of
floating oil has been removed
Environeenw,Inc.
