8260, and Methyl tert-Butyl Ether (MTBE) by EPA Method 8260 Results of these analyses are presented in Table 2 and in the text of Section 4 3 3.6 Floating Oil A recent (September 1998) sample of groundwater monitoring well MW-2 found black, floating oil that appeared to be typical of used motor oil Floating oil was bailed from MW-2 on 27 January 2000 using disposal bailers Approximately 1 gallon of floating oil was removed at that time A layer remained on the groundwater surface and EI was unable to obtain an accurate groundwater level measurement Because of this, the groundwater flow direction by triangulation of the groundwater elevations to the three wells was not completed EI will remove floating oil from MW-2 monthly until this well is clean and an accurate groundwater elevation can be determined and a sample of groundwater can be secured for analysis The direction of groundwater flow will then be determined 4.0 FINDINGS 4.9 Groundwater Level Measurements As measured on 22 December 1999, groundwater was present at a depth of 29 92 ft btc (below top of casing) in MW-1 and at a depth of 30 40 ft btc in MW-3 On 27 January 2000, the groundwater levels in the two groundwater monitoring wells were again measured by EI The groundwater was present at a depth of 28 70 btc in MW-1 and at a depth of 28 60 btc in MW-3 These limited data indicate a southerly flow at a gradient of 0 01 ft/ft on 22 December 1999 The gradient dropped to 0 0036 ft/ft on 27 January 2000 4.2 Photoionization Detector Readings Field instrument readings (photoiomzation detector or PID) indicated the presence of volatile organic compounds at moderate levels in MW-1, and no volatile organic compounds in MW-3 and B-5 These PID data indicate that volatile petroleum hydrocarbon compounds are present at depths of 5 to 30 feet in the soil of the former diesel UST excavation and not in the surrounding area Indications of hydrocarbons in Er►rironeering,Inc.
