(AGE), on your behalf for the above-referenced site. In the
CAP, AGE compared soil remediation alternatives soil vapor extraction (SVE) and ex-situ
disposal of impacted soil; groundwater remediation alternatives groundwater extraction and
in-situ ozone sparging ; and soil/groundwater remediation alternatives high vacuum dual phase
extraction (HVDPE) and monitored natural attenuation..
AGE concludes, based on soil and groundwater conditions and the contaminants of concern,
that in-situ HVDPE should be employed to remediate the high concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbon contamination at this site. AGE explains that HVDPE will be able to treat
contaminants both in the groundwater plume and in the impacted soil located in the vadose
zone and below the static groundwater level. Prior to implementing HVDPE; AGE
recommends that a twenty-four-hour HVDPE pilot test be performed to evaluate the radius of
influence using a portable HVDPE system to simultaneously extract soil vapor and
groundwater from monitoring well MW-7. Nearby wells with similar screen intervals will be
monitored for well head vacuum and depth-to-water measurements.
The EHD approves the HVDPE pilot test as described in the CAP. Please submit the results
of the pilot test to the EHD by 17 March 2011 .
