i <br /> 23 March 2001 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 97-0301 <br /> Page 5of11 <br /> 3 2 FIELD EVIDENCE OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL AND GROUND WATER <br /> ' RESULTS <br /> Faint to intense petroleum hydrocarbon odor was encountered between the 25-and the 85-foot soil <br /> ' samples collected from soil boring MW-5, faint petroleum hydrocarbon odor was encountered in the <br /> 30-foot soil sample collected from MW-7 <br /> ' Organic vapor(confirmed with a PID)was noted in soil sample duplicates collected from soil boring <br /> MW-5 at depths between 25 and 45 feet bsg and from MW-7 at a depth of 30 feet bsg <br /> 1 <br /> 33 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF SOIL SAMPLES <br /> A total of nine soil samples were submitted to a DHS-certified laboratory for analysis of TPH-g, <br /> TPH-d, TPH-k,BTEX,MTBE, ETBE, TAME,DIPE,TBA, 1,2-DCA, EDB, methanol and ethanol <br /> TPH-g was detected in the soil sample collected from MW-5 at 70 feet bsg at a concentration of 4 3 <br /> milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) and the 30-and 40-foot soil samples collected from MW-7 at <br /> concentrations of 1 and 7 6 mg/kg, respectively, TPH-d was detected in samples collected from <br /> MW-5 at 70 and 85 feet bsg at concentrations of 4 1 and 2 2 mg/kg, TPH-k was detected in a soil <br /> sample collected from MW-5 at 70 feet bsg at a concentration of 4 2 mg/kg <br /> ' BTEX compounds were detected in the 70 foot soil sample collected from MW-5 and from the 30 <br /> and 40 foot samples collected from MW-7 at concentrations as high as 1 1 mg/kg (benzene, MW7- <br /> ' 4Q) <br /> 1,2-DCA was detected in the 30 foot soil sample collected from MW-7 at a concentration of 75 ' <br /> ' mg/kg No other fuel components were detected by laboratory analysis The analytical results of <br /> selected soil samples are summanzed in Table 1 The laboratory reports (Castle Analytical <br /> Laboratory Reference No 3360 and McCampbeli Analytical Inc Lab I D Nos 55386 through <br /> ' 55355391 and 56954 through 56956) and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix D <br /> Two soil samples (MW5-25 and MW5-45) were submitted for laboratory analysis of permeability, <br /> ' porosity, moisture and total organic content Analysis of MW5-25 (clayey SAND) found an average <br /> permeability of 5 x 105 ,porosity at 32 16 percent, moisture at 14 8 percent and organic content at <br /> 14 percent Analysis of MW5-45 (sandy clayey silt/silty clay) found an average permeability of 2 <br /> ' x 10 6, porosity at 53 41 percent, moisture at 33 6 percent and orgamc content at 2 3 percent <br /> Analysis of MW2-35 (sandy silt/silty sand)reported an average permeability of 2 x 10-6, porosity at <br /> 43 15 percent, moisture at 25 6 percent and organic content at 16 percent The laboratory results <br /> of the analysis are summarized in Table 2 The laboratory reports (Cooper Testing Laboratory Job <br /> No 255-016) and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix E <br /> Advanced GeoEnviro n mental,Inc <br /> I <br />
