02 February 2000
AGE-NC Project No 97-0301
1 Page 4 of 7
2 2 QUARTERLY MONITORING AND SAMPLING ACTIVITIES
On 20 December 1999, ground water monitoring and sampling was performed on monitoring wells
MW-1,MW-2,MW-3 and MW-4 Depths to ground water and total well depths were measured to
the nearest 0 01-foot utilizing a Solmst water level meter Ground water elevations were calculated
by subtracting the depth to ground water from the surveyed casing elevations(Table 2),ground water
' elevations were plotted and contoured on a scaled site plan (Figure 9)
The ground water levels from all four monitoring wells achieved a mimmum of 80 percent recharge
prior to sample collection Ground water samples were collected utilizing disposable polyethylene
bailers Ground water samples from the four wells were transferred into EPA-approved 40-m1 VOA
vials containing 0 5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative and into one-liter amber
bottles Care was taken to ensure that visible air bubbles were not present in the VOAs after filling
' 1 with the well designation, date time
and capping The ground water sample containers were labeled gn ,
and sampler's initials
'
Following collection, each sample was togged on a chain-of-custody form, placed in a chilled
. container and transported to a DHS-certified laboratory for analysis in accordance with
- d
• EPA Method 8015 Modified for TPH g, TPH-d an TPH-k,
• EPA Method 8020 for BTEX with MTBE, and
• EPA Method 8260 Modified for TBA,DIPE, ETBE, TAME and MTBE
' The results of the analysis are contained in Table 3
1
3.0. FINDINGS
' Soil descriptions were utilized to construct geologic cross sections of the site Field data was utilized
to select samples for laboratory analysis and to determine ground water flow direction and gradient
Hydrocarbon impact to soil and ground water was assessed and quantified by laboratory analysis
Laboratory analysis of fifteen soil samples detected TPH-g, TPH-d, TPH-k and BTEX compounds
in three soil samples, no fuel oxygenated compounds were detected during the laboratory analysis
31 STRATIGRAPHY
Generally, a pale gray to dark brown, very stiff to hard, fine sandy silt was encountered between 5
feet bsg and 10 feet bsg A pale brown to pale gray, moist, medium dense to dense, silty fine sand
Advanced GeoEnvironmentai,Inc
